Sources Of Marble.

We use marble & granite from Portugal, Spain and many other countries worldwide. Each marble has its own unique characteristics and will vary in colour, shading and veining. Its composition is unique and reflects the geological conditions present when it was formed.

Solid Versus Composite.

The veins and fissures of solid marble can produce wonderful effects in classical architecture but this can be disproportionate in the smaller rooms that we have now.

The composite marbles that are now available combine the beauty of the natural stone with greater consistency and colour matching. They are a manufactured product incorporating small pieces of marble bonded with coloured resins giving a more consistent shading throughout the material. This technique frequently produces small air-holes within the product and should not be considered a fault.

Natural marble and conglomerate marbles are porous and can be affected by alkalines and acids. A feature of natural marble is its individual colour quality and veining. Colour matching cannot always be guaranteed to samples or to later orders. However, our design team will always endeavour to make the best possible match.

Care and Preparation.

Natural stone is virtually maintenance free, when sealed correctly. The use of the correct sealant is very important, as it protects the stone tile by forming a barrier against dirt and stains.

Untreated marble is surprisingly porous and can therefore stain if it comes into contact with deeply coloured liquids if left uncleaned. All of Worcestershire Marble’s products are fully sealed and will not need resealing for several decades under normal use but we do recommend that spills are mopped up as soon as possible and that any damage to the surface is treated by a professional to restore the polish and seal.
